Join the British Deer Society and help secure the future of deer in the UK

Your membership helps fund the work of the BDS including:

Science & Research – We commission, fund and support research projects which improve our understanding of the biology of deer and their interactions with their environment, helping us to improve deer management.

Awareness & Education – BDS aims to provide a range of opportunities for the public to discover more about deer in the UK, to encourage an understanding and appreciation of them and their place within our natural landscape.

Best Practice Training – Our range of nationally industry-recognised training in effective and humane management of deer and their habitats help to improve the skills and expertise of people involced in deer management.

Advocacy & Consultation – Our technical experts advise government, government agencies and other public bodies on deer-related issues to ensure best practice in deer management with a keen eye on deer welfare and sustainability.

Who are our members?

Membership is open to anyone who shares our passion for deer and the desire to safeguard the future of these iconic creatures.

Our members include wildlife enthusists, conservationists, estate managers, land owners, farmers, stalkers, scientists, researchers, writers, deer watchers, chefs, food producers, artists and photographers. In addition, our corporate members include businesses, societies and organisations that care about our UK deer populations.

BDS members receive: 

  • A copy of our quarterly glossy journal, ‘Deer’, packed with interesting articles and information
  • Membership of a local BDS branch offering talks, demonstrations, advice and range days
  • Opportunities to get involved with wildlife photography and research
  • Opportunities to get involved with fundraising, events and raising awareness about deer
  • Opportunity to purchase specalist Field Sports Insurance for those involved in recreational countryside pursuits
